Caring for People Living with Dementia

Dates: Four Wednesdays - September 23, September 30, October 7, October 14

Location: Winthrop Public Library

Time: 1:00 - 3:00 pm

This four-week course facilitated by Sheila Brandenburg, RN will offer insight into dementia and how to provide loving, respectful care for people living with dementia. The key is education and approaching care with creativity, compassion, and understanding. We’ll also cover ways to take care of ourselves as caregivers.

Volunteers from our Creative Aging program are available at each session for your loved one, offering a dementia friendly, supervised, arts engagement program while you attend the workshops.

Health and Wellness Fair - Hosted by Methow At Home

Date: October 1, 2026

Location: Winthrop Red Barn

This event is a free community Health & Wellness Fair dedicated to supporting healthy aging in our community. This event brings together local organizations, healthcare providers, and wellness professionals to share resources, information, and services that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Attendees can explore booths, connect with local programs, and learn about tools and services available in our community. Whether you’re seeking health information, support for yourself or a loved one, or simply want to learn what’s available locally, this fair offers a welcoming space to connect and learn.

A Matter of Balance

Date: October 6, 2026

Location: Twisp Grange

An evidence-based, field-tested program, A Matter of Balance has been shown to be highly effective in reducing the fear of falling and increasing activity levels among older adults. 

8 Sessions

*Two times a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3, beginning October 6th

Who should attend Matter of Balance?
The program is designed to benefit older adults who:

  • Are concerned about falls

  • Have sustained falls in the past

  • Restrict activities because of concerns about falling

  • Are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength

  • Are age 60 or older, community-dwelling and able to problem solve

Home Care Aide (HCA) Training - Online Training Program

Dates: Available Now

Our Home Care Aide (HCA) Program is available year-round and provides the training and support needed to begin a career in caregiving. Participants learn essential skills to support older adults and individuals with disabilities in their homes, while working toward HCA certification. If you’re compassionate, reliable, and interested in a career in healthcare, the HCA program offers a clear path to get started.

Elder Care Provider Meeting - Hosted by Room One

Dates: Quarterly in-person meetings

Our Elder Care Provider Meeting is a quarterly gathering of professionals who support older adults in our community and the greater region, including doctors, nurses, caregivers, social workers, EMS, and other service providers. These meetings create a dedicated space for shared learning opportunities and strengthen collaboration across organizations. By coming together regularly, providers can better coordinate services, address emerging needs, and work collectively to improve the quality of care and support for elders and their families.
